Spark of Hope #68 – As we tally the “what-if’s” in our mind, creative and spontaneous energy is slowly depleted. I’ve met people who are so fearful of what could happen that they avoid taking chances or trying new things. So, they miss opportunities to grow as they age. Today, I took a chance and did something entirely out of my box. I went zip lining, with one of the seven lines spanning 1500 feet across and 80 feet off the ground! Before it began, the what-if’s crept in…”what if I get stuck or spin?” Well, sure enough I did spin and I did get stuck along one of the lines. For a few seconds I panicked as I began spinning. Then I regained my senses as I rotated the carabiner clip and thought “well, at least I’m still moving.” Then a few feet later, I was stuck! To my surprise, I suddenly thought about how I’d climbed every rope to the top in middle school gym class. Facing backwards, I calmly put hand over hand and made my way to the finish. In the middle of getting stuck I realized something else. My God-given abilities to get unstuck were greater than my fear of being stuck. I felt proud of myself for getting unstuck from my fears. The experience was hopeful and exhilarating. Push past the what-if’s because Huge Outcomes are Possible Everyday!
Hope is like a spark; if the conditions are right, it can spread like wildfire. Hope feeds the soul, ignites passion, and inspires others. A world without it is like a world without possibility. Tucked inside each of us is a child-like spark that says: never forget to dream, play and imagine. HOPE is the extraordinary spark that says Huge Outcomes are Possible Everyday!
