Spark of Hope #107 – There is a wonderful foundation called “Wish of A Lifetime.” Jeremy Bloom created it on the premise that senior citizens should be respected, honored and aided in our society. Thinking of his own inspirational grandmother and the challenges seniors face daily, Jeremy set out to make dreams come true for seniors. I’ve often thought about his beautiful concept in loving my parents through Alzheimer’s. As it is with the wretched nature of the disease, travel — and other things — are increasingly difficult for my Mom. Still, with every visit she pleads, “did you bring the car? Let’s go!” So, I confront the challenges, arrange support, and take her for rides with Dad. We’ve taken in views of the beach and the dog park, indulged in chocolate ice cream and most recently her favorite travel stop — the Cracker Barrel. The managers arranged for the blessing of a quiet, private entrance and tucked-away seating. Logistics at this tender point of late-stage Alzheimer’s are tough, but not impossible. It most certainly takes a village and advance planning! Is it worth it for a meal out at an old favorite? Emphatically, YES! Huge Outcomes are Possible Everyday — with HOPE and senior wishes come true! *A special note of thanks to Home Instead Senior Care for arranging an onsite compassionate helper.*
Hope is like a spark; if the conditions are right, it can spread like wildfire. Hope feeds the soul, ignites passion, and inspires others. Tucked inside each of us is a child-like spark that says: never forget to dream, play and imagine. HOPE is the extraordinary spark that says Huge Outcomes are Possible Everyday!
