We started the week by attending a beautiful Survivor Breakfast given by the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer committee of the American Cancer Society on the Emerald Coast. The author’s best friend from TN got to attend too—the teacher friend to whom the first book in this series was dedicated. Wonderful celebration for survivors!
That was followed by an amazing event on Tuesday which we co-sponsored with Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW) in Fort Walton Beach FL. The management there paired up with us to host “On a Wing and a Prayer we can Make a Difference!” Together we raised money for breast cancer research by each meal ticket resulting in a 15% donation by BWW! We shared door prizes, community support, Pink enthusiasm, survivor stories, and “moments of hope” from the Little Pink Book series. The event was SO much more than expected, with people lining out the door waiting for seating! Now, that is Pink Hope in action!!!
Wednesday was another amazing day of sharing Pink hope through these books, with author & illustrator visiting Camp Bluebird – the cancer camp for adult survivors. We enjoyed being part of the campers’ first day there, gearing up with them up for an experience in “when I grow up.” Through our whimsical stick-characters we shared hope, enthusiasm, imagination, humor and healing. We were accompanied by two fabulous Pink cheerleaders–Vicki and Jennifer! The ride is always better with friends along! 🙂
Friday marks a fun finish to this week of sharing Pink Hope. The District Manager of Starbucks (Michelle) invited us to her Gulf Breeze & Fort Walton Beach locations to host a “Pink Book Event” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. We’ll be at Gulf Breeze Starbucks from 11am-1pm (10/22) & at Uptown Station Starbucks from 6-8pm (10/26).
After Starbucks on Oct 22nd, we’ll spend the evening as a guest in a panel discussion entitled “Women in Media–Enhancing a Personal Brand.” We’ll attend this Sandhandle Workshop with other invited guests for a night of sharing the story behind the story–what it takes to get in the marketplace, reach an audience of readers, and more.
Next week begins the final week of October. We’ll end the month with a 2nd Starbucks Pink Book Event, a visit to Sacred Heart Hospital’s Ann L. Baroco Breast Health Center, another book signing at Eglin Air Force Base during their noticable Pink support for breast cancer awareness, and finally on the 30th—help at the Survivor Tent at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk with the American Cancer Society!
It has been a very full October for us! But our passion for sharing Pink hope doesn’t end with the month of October! Watch for other exciting events geared to make a difference in this fight against breast cancer. And if you haven’t joined us on Facebook yet, visit “The Little Pink Books” page!
